Description

Purpose of the Job:



The Accounting Officer is responsible for completing a wide range of accounting activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and is also responsible for maintaining client loan accounts. The incumbent is required to perform numerous accounting functions including journal entries, reconciliations, invoicing, accounts payable and accounts receivable for the five portfolios under Meridian OneCap. The incumbent also assists in the duties of the Senior Accounting Officer in their absence. As a result, the incumbent is required to have a thorough understanding of the client, and financial accounting principles and practices used in the organization. Basic knowledge of established accounting standards, procedures, and internal control of the company in accordance with IFRS and public reporting regulation, is also required for this position. The incumbent must provide a high standard of customer service.



Key Responsibilities:



Responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger for Meridian One Cap (MOCC) in accordance with the CICA Handbook, Meridian OneCap, and Meridian’s policies and procedures by:

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:



•   Working towards a recognized Accounting designation preferable (CMA, CGA, or CA)



•   University degree



•   Minimum 2 years related experience in a position of similar responsibility



•   Banking/financial/leasing experience highly desirable



•   Knowledge and understanding of IFRS, banking regulations and public reporting



•   Strong computer skills (Excel, Windows, Word, and automated GL systems)





•   Good communication and interpersonal skills are very important

Working Conditions:



Works in a standard office environment with no perceived risk of exposure.  The position is primarily non-physical with intermittent periods of sitting or standing.  There may be some movement of materials (usually by lifting) required, i.e. files, computer reports, filing boxes, etc.  Large periods of the day require sight concentration while working on computer terminals and verifying the accuracy of documents and reports.  There can be increased pressure resulting from demands/volumes, as well as tight deadlines, delivery commitments, which occur frequently.  Month-ends, quarter-ends and year-ends may bring longer working hours in order to meet tight deadlines. The incumbent must rely on good planning and organization skills to follow up on others to supply information. The incumbent works in a high-pressure environment, which sometimes requires the shifting of priorities.
